When you are scooping a ground ball you first need to lower your body to the ground by bending at the knees and back. Next plant your right foot next to the ball (if you are scooping right-handed) You can use the memory aid "scrape you knuckles on the ground" or "two butts down (butt end of stick and your butt)" to help you remember to get your hands and the stick low to the ground and behind the ball. As you scoop through the ball bring the stick up to your face (kiss the ball) and "run to space". Typically, if you scoop right-handed you should run to your left after scooping. The first thought into your head as you pickup a ground ball would be - pass the ball to an open teammate.
